(PETERSBURG, Va.) History was made as the Bowie State University defended their back-to-back CIAA Championship, routing Fayetteville State University 9-1 to claim their third conference crown in a row.

The Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State jumped on FSU's Lady Broncos from the opening pitch, bolting out to a 3-0 advantage. Bowie State put three more on the board in the bottom of the second inning to increase the lead to 6-0.

Fayetteville State scored their only run the top half of the third inning when Alicia Frank singled to left field, scoring LaTonia Gatling.

Bowie State (24-6) responded by adding two runs in the bottom of the third and ended the game early on a triple by Tiffany Toney (Abilene, TX, Abilene Cooper, The University of Oklahoma ) which scored Danielle McClay (Silver Spring, MD, Montgomery Blair) from first. Toney, the Championship game MVP also opened the game with a triple.

Toney, Tricia Corbin (Glen Burnie, MD, Old Mill) and Danielle McClay led BSU's Lady Bulldogs with a pair of hits each. Corbin recorded a game-high four RBI for Bowie State.

Fayetteville State (26-25) was led by Rahkee Smith with three hits on the afternoon and April Branch added two hits.

With the Bowie State win, the Lady Bulldogs advance to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regionals.

GAME ONE BOX SCORE       GAME TWO BOX SCORE

(GLEN BURNIE, Md.) Division I Coppin State University took two from Bowie State University, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 4-1 and 7-2. Coppin State, a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) improves its record to 7-2, while the Bowie State record dips to 2-4 overall. Bowie State returns to action tomorrow (March 10) in another non-conference game at Goldey-Beacom College.

(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) The three-peat CIAA Champion Lady Bulldogs softball team opened their 2010 campaign with a two-game sweep of Mary Baldwin College (Staunton, Va.). Bowie State dominated the Fighting Squirrels by scores of 8-0 and 11-1 on opening day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.

(BOWIE, Md.)  Bowie State University head softball coach Darrell Toney is proud to announce the signing of six outstanding student-athletes to the Lady Bulldogs program.  The class includes Adria Lewis (Cumberland, Maryland), Megan Peomroy (Thurmont, Maryland), Haley Snyder (Pennsauken, New Jersey), Shelby Snyder, (Pennsauken, New Jersey), Renelle Traylor (Hayward, California) and Cherokee Williams (Upper Marlboro, Maryland).

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN)  Bowie State University's Tiffany Toney (Abilene, TX, Abilene Cooper, The University of Oklahoma ) named NCAA Division II Woman of the Year.  Toney, the three-time CIAA Softball Player of the Year (2007-2009), is one of 132 NCAA female student-athletes selected.

(LOCK HAVEN, Pa.)  Win or go home was the theme of game four of the NCAA Atlantic Softball Region.  Unfortunately, the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University dropped a 2-0 decision to Shippensburg (Pa.) University to end their season.
