SHIPPENSBURG TENNIS EDGES BOWIE STATE 5-4
FINAL STATS

(SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.)  Bowie State University women's tennis came up one game short against host Shippensburg, dropping a 5-4 decision.  The set back puts Bowie State's record at 4-3 on the year.

Kyara Lombre (Mitchellville, MD, C.H. Flowers) defeated Ali Horvath 8-3 at #2 singles, Chelyce Fields (Suitland, MD, Suitland) beat Robin Light 8-4 at #4 singles and Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley) defeated Calli Weidler 8-6 at #6 singles.  Shippensburg's Jackie Kramer beat BSU's Danielle Fields (Suitland, MD, Suitland) 8-1 in #1 singles action, Lydia Mahon (Hyattsville, MD) lost her #3 singles match to Jess Lodek by the score of 8-2 and Hannah Lolley defeated Jessica Bond (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy / Emerson Preparatory School) 8-3 at #6 singles.

Shippensburg won two of three doubles matches, claiming 8-0 and 8-1 victories at the #1 and #3 positions.  Bowie State was able to win the #2 doubles match as Lombre and Chelyce Fields defeated Horvath and Weidler 8-1.

Bowie State travels to Elizabeth City State University for its next match - Sunday, March 22nd.  The Lady Vikings and Lady Bulldogs doubleheader will begin at 12 noon.

BOX SCORE

(PETERSBURG, Va.) The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association kicked off the first day of the Women’s Tennis Championships today from the Virginia State Tennis Complex. Bowie State University's Lady Bulldogs defeated Elizabeth City State University 5-3 and advance to face Shaw - Friday (April 16) in semifinal action.  The conference has elected to alter the format of this year’s championships. Instead of individual seeding by flight, teams will face each other in a single elimination, first to five match points tournament.

MATCH RESULTS

(BOWIE, Md.)  St. Mary's College of Maryland defeated Bowie State 7-2 in non-conference women's tennis action.  The loss puts the Lady Bulldogs overall record at 11-4 on the year.  Bowie State will wrap up conference play Thursday (April 1) hosting Virginia State University at 5 p.m.

FINAL RESULTS

(PETERSBURG, Va.)  Bowie State University senior Jessica Bond (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy / Emerson Preparatory School) defeated Lakevia Ingram of Virginia State in straights sets 6-4 and 6-3 to capture the No. 5 Singles title.  Lady Bulldogs place third overall at CIAA Spring Sports Championships.

(PETERSBURG, Va.) The finals match-ups are set in the women's singles competition for the 2009 CIAA Tennis Championships. Six schools will be represented in the singles’ finals on Saturday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Courts on the campus of Virginia State University.

DAY TWO RESULTS

(PETERSBURG, Va.)  Day two of the CIAA Tennis Championships proved to be better for the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs.  BSU went a perfect 6-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles through the quarterfinal round.
