(RALEIGH, N.C.) St. Augustine's played almost a flawless first half and used that momentum to sweep the series, beating Bowie State 75-66. Junior Duke Crews (Hampton, VA, Bethel, Univ. of Tennessee) scored a game-high 18 points and snared a career-high 21 rebounds in the loss. 

Hayward Fain (Akron, OH) scored 17 points to lead four double-figure scorers for Saint Augustine's College, which used an early first-half run to subdue Bowie State University. Chris Jordan (Houston, TX) added 16 points on 4-for-7 3-point shooting, Steven Brignol (Brooklyn, NY) added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Brandon Hickson (Columbia, SC) pumped in 11 points for the Falcons (16-7 overall, 9-5 CIAA), who jumped out to a 19-2 lead and never trailed. Jordan sparked the run with three 3-pointers. Bowie State went scoreless for the first 8 minutes and 59 seconds until a Cassin Diggs (Williamsport, PA, Williamsport, University of Pittsburgh) layup broke the drought.

A Crews layup five minutes into the second half, cut the deficit to 41-36 after losing the first period 36-22. But the Falcons pushed the lead to 60-42 on Hickson's free throw with four minutes left. A late Bulldog run made the final score respectable. 

Andrew Engel (Glen Burnie, MD, Old Mill, Colby C.C.)  added 14 points and Charles Richardson (Suitland, MD, Suitland, Montgomery - Takoma Park C.C.) scored 10 points for the Bulldogs, who outrebounded the Falcons 50-36 including 20-6 on the offensive boards. But the Falcons held the Bulldogs to 32 percent shooting

including 23 percent in the first half when they set the tone. The Falcons also shot 27-of-38 free throws while the Bulldogs made 15-of-21 free throws.

The Bulldogs of Bowie State (11-10, 8-6 CIAA) return to action Saturday, February 7th against the Shaw University Bears. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Shaw's Spaulding Gymnasium.
