SEVEN LADY BULLDOGS NAMED TO ALL-CIAA TEAM
ALL-CIAA AND ALL-ROOKIE TEAMS LISTING

(HAMPTON, Va.)  The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association is proud to announce the 2008 All-CIAA and All-CIAA Rookie Teams as selected by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association.  Seven Bowie State players, Alycia Williams-Chase (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic), Tamira Conner Rogers (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill), Bethany Sloat (Baltimore, MD, Western, Columbia Union College), Itumeleng Shadreck (Bostwana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central), Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley)La Teasha Johnson (Arnold, MD, Antioch Christian School, Anne Arundel C.C.) and Breaun Garner (Beltsville, MD, Northwestern) were among those honored as members of the Second Team.  Johnson was also named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team as well.

This year's team is led by Chekimbrell Jefferson of Fayetteville State University. This season, Chekimbrell leads the conference in hitting percentage, .351 and kills 358, 3.48 avg. Jefferson was the 2007 Player of the Year and Tournament MVP.

Jefferson is joined by Xie'Ara Maybank-Smallings, an Elizabeth City State Lady Viking. Maybank-Smallings ranks at the top of the conference in blocks with 116, 1.20 per set and is second in the conference in hitting percentage, .343.

The CIAA Player and Rookie of the Year will be announced at the Volleyball Championship Banquet held at the Virginia Air and Space Center, Hampton, VA on Thursday, November 6, 2008; 7:00pm.

BOX SCORE

Senior Breaun Garner (Beltsville, MD, Northwestern) and junior JaTyra Heath (Federalsburg, MD, Colonel Richardson) paced Bowie State with 11 kills apeice.  However, after five tough sets, Shaw University ended the Bowie State University season, beating the Lady Bulldogs 25-16, 17-25, 25-18, 18-25 and 15-13.

(LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA.)  Bowie State University dropped its final regular season match, falling in three sets by scores of 25-10, 25-20 and 25-17 to Lincoln University of Pennsylvania.

(BOWIE, Md.)  Playing their final home match of the season, Bowie State University lost a non-conference contest to Kutztown University of Pennsylvania 3-0.  BSU's Lady Bulldogs fell by scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-15 to the Golden Bears.

(WEST CHESTER, PA)  Bowie State University was shutout 3-0 by West Chester University of Pennsylvania, dropping the Lady Bulldogs record to 5-22.  West Chester won the match by scores of 25-8, 25-6 and 25-8.
