BOWIE STATE SURVIVES TO WIN 66-59 AT ST. PAUL'S
BOX SCORE

(LAWRENCEVILLE, Va.) Bowie State survived a late St. Paul’s second half rally and held on to defeat the Tigers 66-59. Bowie State managed just five free throws over the final 7:10 to improve its record to 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the CIAA and 1-0 in the East.

The visiting Bulldogs torched the Taylor-Whitehead Gymnasium nets at a 54 percent clip in the first half, making 13-of-24 from the floor and included five-of-nine beyond the 3-point line. St. Paul’s made 11-of-29 first half field goal attempts (38 percent) and was led by Kendrick Williams and Anthony Wynn with 11 and eight first half points respectively. Bowie State junior Charles Richardson (Suitland, MD, Suitland, Montgomery - Takoma Park C.C.) came off the bench to pace the Bulldogs in the first 20 minutes with 12 points.

Wynn led the second half surge with 14 points (22 overall), hitting all eight of his field goal attempts, six-of-nine from the charity stripe and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. SPC’s Williams was shut down in the final period but Maurice Reevy stepped up to score nine of his total 11 points.

Senior Curtis Massey (Upper Marlboro, MD, Largo, Dodge City CC) led Bowie State with team highs of 17 points and nine rebounds. Richardson closed out the night with two huge free throws, giving him 14 total points. Junior Andrew Engel (Glen Burnie, MD, Old Mill, Colby C.C.) put 11 points on the board for BSU’s Bulldogs and added eight rebounds.

Bowie State’s Bulldogs will take a brief break for Thanksgiving before traveling to Wingate (N.C.) University to participate in the OrthoCarolina Classic. Bowie State will open the weekend Classic against Catawba College at noon Saturday (11/29) then face host Wingate at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Bowie State was led by junior Duke Crews (Hampton, VA, Bethel, Univ. of Tennessee) with a season-high 19 points and junior Charles Richardson (Suitland, MD, Suitland, Montgomery - Takoma Park C.C.) added 13 points. Junior Armond Hill (Silver Spring, MD, Springbrook, Montgomery - Rockville C.C.) tied for game-high rebound honors, pulling down eight for the Bulldogs and senior Curtis Massey (Upper Marlboro, MD, Largo, Dodge City CC) along with fellow junior Corey Camphor (Upper Marlboro, MD, DeMatha) were responsible seven rebounds each.

(BOWIE, Md.)  The Bulldogs of Bowie State snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 5-4 on the season, while Shepherd University falls to 1-7 on the year after a 77-61 victory over the Rams in a non-conference contest.  At halftime, the BSU Cheerleaders (aka The Golden Girls) kicked off a Darfur Shoe Drive that will run through the end of February.
