(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) The three-peat CIAA Champion Lady Bulldogs softball team opened their 2010 campaign with a two-game sweep of Mary Baldwin College (Staunton, Va.). Bowie State dominated the Fighting Squirrels by scores of 8-0 and 11-1 on opening day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.
Freshman Amanda Hedgepeth (Odenton, MD, Arundel) led Bowie State in game one with three hits and senior Kelley Alexander (Damascus, Md., Covenant Life, Montgomery College) added two hits. Junior Shalai Tabor (Waldorf, MD, Delaware State Univ.) and freshman Megan Alexander (Damascus, Md., Damascus) paced BSU's Lady Bulldogs with two RBI each. As a team, Bowie State stroked eight hits in the opening game.
It was all Bowie State in game two, as the Lady Bulldogs roughed up Mary Baldwin pitching for 12 hits, scoring two in the second, five in the third and four in the sixth inning. Kelly and Megan Alexander along with junior Danielle McClay (Silver Spring, MD, Montgomery Blair) accounted for two hits each. Megan Alexander and McClay led Bowie State with four and three RBI respectively.
Bowie State begins day two of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with a doubleheader against Point Park University (Pittsburgh, Pa.) beginning at 9:30 a.m.
