Dominic Milburn Named To CIAA All-Rookie Team

(HAMPTON, Va.) The 2010 CIAA Basketball All-Rookie Teams along with their respective Rookies of the Year have been announced as voted on by the CIAA Sports Information Directors’ Association.   Bowie State University's Dominic Milburn (Silver Spring, MD, Montrose Christian) is among those honored on the men's team.

On the women’s side the 2010 CIAA Women’s Rookie of the Year is Talaya Lynch of Chowan University. Once named the CIAA Rookie of the Week Lynch, a native of Hampton, VA (Hampton HS), has made an immediate impact in the Hawks first year in the CIAA. She ranks second on her team in scoring at 11.3 points per outing, good for 16th overall in the conference. She has started all 23 games for CU this season and has led her team in scoring on 12 different occasions. She leads the Hawks in both three-point field goal percentage and three-point field goals made.


Angelo Sharpless of Elizabeth City State has unanimously been voted as the 2010 CIAA Men’s Rookie of the Year. A native of Plymouth, NC (Plymouth HS), he has been tabbed as the CIAA Rookie of the Week six times this season. He is the Vikings’ second leading scorer and rebounder averaging 12.8 points and 6.4 boards per contest. He has tallied double figures in eight games this season and has three 20 + point performances. He also leads the Vikings in 3-point field goal percentage, shooting 62% from behind the three-point arc.


The Men’s and Women’s All-Rookie Basketball teams will be honored at the tip off luncheon in Charlotte, NC at next week’s CIAA Basketball Tournament. A complete list of the 2010 All-Rookie Teams is as follows:

(BOWIE, Md.)  Sophomore Travis Hyman (Annapolis, MD, Old Mill, Prince George's C.C.) and junior Eric Vann (Clinton, MD, Gwynn Park, Prince George's C.C.) scored 18 points each to lead Bowie State to a convincing 76-54 victory over the Tigers of Saint Paul's College.  The win improves the Bowie State record to 15-9 overall, 13-6 in the CIAA and 4-2 in the East.
