TRACK & FIELD PLACES SECOND IN THE WOMEN'S AND MEN'S DIVISION AT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
COMPLETE RESULTS

(PETERSBURG, Va.)   Saint Augustine's College won the CIAA men’s outdoor track and field title, scoring 229.75 points.  Bowie State University was second overall in the men's division, scoring 76.50 points followed by Virginia State University in third with 72.75 points. Johnson C. Smith University was fourth with 70.50 points, followed by Virginia Union University in fifth (64.25 points), Livingstone College in sixth (23.50 points), Saint Paul’s College seventh (18 points), and Shaw University finished in eighth place (13.75 points).

The Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine's scored 201 points to earn the women’s crown. Bowie State was second with 125 points followed by Johnson C. Smith with 86 points, Virginia State with 80 points, Shaw with 33 points, Saint Paul’s with 14.50 points and Virginia Union with 5.50 points. 

Bowie State’s Elaine Rhoades (Norfolk, VA, Booker T. Washington) and Joe Kindred of Saint Augustine’s College were named women’s and men’s field events Most Valuable Performers, respectively. Ledford Green of Johnson C. Smith won men’s track MVP and Angelique Smith of Saint Augustine’s College captured female track MVP.

The women’s winners were Rhoades (long jump, triple jump) and Lakisha Carney (Newport News, Va., Denbigh) of Bowie State (shot put, discus throw), Barbara Pierre of Saint Augustine’s College (100 dash, 200 dash), Smith of Saint Augustine’s College (400 dash), Kyra Mobley of Saint Augustine’s College (800 run, 1500 run), Racquel Daley of Saint Augustine’s College (3000 run), Shermaine Williams of Johnson C. Smith (100 hurdles), Nikki Boston of Johnson C. Smith (400 hurdles), Andrea Powell of Saint Augustine’s College (high jump), and Brynn Rosser of Virginia State (javelin throw). Saint Augustine’s College won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Rhoades also placed second in the High Jump (1.63m), third in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:03.11) and fourth in the 100 Meter Hurdles (14.65).

Other top five finishers for Bowie State include Carney (1st – Shot Put – 13.21m, 1st – Discus – 42.27 and 4th – Javelin – 28.40), Michelle Palmer (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) (3rd – 400 Meter Dash – 57.34), Angelique Henderson 3rd – Javelin – 29.25m) and fifth in the Triple Jump (10.62m). Kayla Campbell (Hampton, Va., Bethel) placed second in the Shot Put (12.57m). Alyce Harrell also claimed second in the Discus (39.82) and returned home with a fifth place finish in the Javelin (26.44m). Shamika Patton (Frederick, MD, Frederick) performed well, coming back to BSU with a fourth place finish in the 800 Meter Run and 1500 Meter Run and placed sixth overall in the 3000 Meter Run. Brandy Peat (Newport News, VA, Denbigh) rounds out Bowie State’s top five finishers, placing fifth in the Shot Put (11.86m) and fifth in the Discus (32.29).

The Bowie State women placed third overall in the 4x100 Meter Relay (48.65) as wellas a third place finish in the 4x400 Meter Relay (4:00.04)

The top winners on the men’s side were Joffrey Alcidor (Silver Spring, MD, Springbrook) of Bowie State (pole vault), Ramon Gittens of Saint Augustine’s College (100 dash), Green of JCSU (200 dash and 400 hurdles), Josh Scott of Saint Augustine’s College (400 dash), Johnny Shuping of Saint Augustine’s College (800 and 1500 runs), Geoffrey Langat of Virginia Union (5000 run), Jason Boyd of Saint Augustine’s College (110 hurdles), Kindred of Saint Augustine’s College (high jump, long jump, triple jump), Darien Kearney of Virginia State (shot put), Todd Shelton of Saint Paul’s (discus throw), and Julius Wright of Johnson C. Smith (javelin throw). Virginia State won the 4x100 relay and Saint Augustine’s College won the 4x400 relay.

Other BSU Bulldogs to finish in the top five include Jamin Gallman (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) (4th – 800 Meter Run – 1:55.93 and 5th - 400 Meter Dash – 48.30), Daryl Sanders (Upper Marlboro, MD, DeMatha) (2nd – 5000 Meter Run – 17:00.73 and 5th – 1500 Meter Run – 4:18.30) and Aaron Johnson (Oxon Hill, MD, Oxon Hill) (2nd – Pole Vault – 2.74m and 4th – High Jump – 1.98m). Franklin Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) rounded out the BSU trifecta in the Pole Vault, finishing third (2.44m) in the event. Rashad Wright placed third in the Shot Put (13.37) and Sean Johnson (Oxon Hill, MD, Oxon Hill) was fifth in the Triple Jump (14.31m).

As a team, Bowie State placed third in the 4x400 Meter Relay finals with a time of 3:15.12.

(RALEIGH, N.C.)  The Bowie State University Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs track & field teams had some great efforts to close out the 2010 Reebok Raleigh Relays. The event was highlighted by a third place fininsh by senior Aaron Johnson (Oxon Hill, MD, Oxon Hill) in the men's high jump.  The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will return to action next weekend (April 2-3) at the Aggie Relays hosted by North Carolina A&T State University.
