WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLACES SECOND OVERALL AT VIRGINIA STATE EASTERN DIVISION MEET

COMPLETE INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

(PETERSBURG, Va.)  The Bowie State University women's track and field team returned home from the final tuneup before next weeks CIAA Outdoor Championships, placing second overall in the six team Eastern Division meet hosted by Virginia State University.  Virginia State placed first (164 points), followed by BSU's Lady Bulldogs (119 points) and Lincoln University of Pennsylvania was third (70 points).  Virginia Union University came in fourth (41 points) followed by Saint Paul's College (8 points) in fifth and Elizabeth City State rounded out the field in sixth (6 points). 

Lakisha Carney (Newport News, Va., Denbigh) placed first in the Discus (42.28m), second in the Shot Put (12.20m) and third in the Javelin (25.68m).  Brandy Peat (Newport News, VA, Denbigh) took third in two events (Shot Put - 12.25m and Discus - 28.16m) and finished fifth in the Javelin (22.30m).

Kayla Campbell (Hampton, Va., Bethel) came home with a first place finish in the Shot Put (12.51m).  Angelique Henderson took second in the Javelin (29.64m) and also placed second in the 100 Meter Hurdles (15.58).  Christina Rowles (Upper Marlboro, MD, Oxon Hill) was second in the High Jump (1.50m) and Tonya Walton (Indian Head, MD, Lackey) placed second in the 400 Meter Dash (1:05.53).  Alyce Harrell came in second place in the Discus (35.91m) and placed 4th in the Long Jump (4.58m).  Michelle Palmer (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) and Shamika Patton (Frederick, MD, Frederick) were top five finshers as well.  Palmer was third in the 200 Meter Dash (26.27) and Patton came in 4th in the 800 Meter Run (2:36.35).

Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs head into the CIAA Spring Championships (April 16-18) with great anticipation.

(ETTRICK, Va.)  The 2010 CIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships concluded today with Bowie State's women placing second overall and the men coming in third.  BSU's Lakesha Carney (Hampton, VA, Denbigh) was selected field MVP.

(CHARLOTTE, N.C.)  There were several individual highlights worth mentioning in Bowie State University's final outdoor meet before the conference championships.  The Lady Bulldogs were led by John'Ne Allen Davis and Lakesha Carney (Hampton, VA, Denbigh) while William Bailey, Jamin Gallman (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) and Collen Cumberbatch paced the Bulldogs.

(RALEIGH, N.C.)  The Bowie State University Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs track & field teams had some great efforts to close out the 2010 Reebok Raleigh Relays. The event was highlighted by a third place fininsh by senior Aaron Johnson (Oxon Hill, MD, Oxon Hill) in the men's high jump.  The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will return to action next weekend (April 2-3) at the Aggie Relays hosted by North Carolina A&T State University.
