(BOWIE, Md.) The visiting Johnson C. Smith University Lady Golden Bulls squeezed out a 5-4 conference women’s tennis match victory over the Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs. The loss evens Bowie State’s record at 5-5 overall but drops BSU to 3-4 in the CIAA. With the win, JCSU improves to 7-10 overall and 5-1 in the CIAA. 

In singles action, Johnson C. Smith won four out of six matches, taking the number one through three singles and also claimed victory at number six.  JCSU's Cameron Chatman blanked BSU's Danielle Fields (Suitland, MD, Suitland) 6-0 and 6-0 at #1, Jae Hargett defeated Bowie State's Kyara Lombre (Mitchellville, MD, C.H. Flowers) at #2 by the score of 2-0 and 6-2 and Brittany Laws defeated Lydia Mahon (Hyattsville, MD, Prince George's CC) 6-2 and 6-2 an #3.  Bowie State's Chelyce Fields (Suitland, MD, Suitland) downed Johnson C. Smith's Melissa Shuler 6-2 and 6-1 at #4 and Jessica Bond (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy / Emerson Preparatory School) defeated JCSU's Rolanda Sue 6-4 and 6-4 at the #5 singles.  Tyra Breaux of Johnson C. Smith edged BSU's Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley) in a marathon #6 match, winning by the scores of 7-6, 6-7 and 6-2.

Bowie State's Danielle Fields and Mahon lost its #1 doubles match 8-0 to Chatman and Hargett.  However, BSU's Lady Bulldogs were victors at #2 and #3 doubles.  BSU's Lombre and Chelyce Fields defeated Laws and Sue 8-5 and the Bond and McNair duo won 9-7 over Breax and Shuler at #3 doubles.

The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to play at Shaw University tomorrow (3/28), weather permitting followed by a Sunday (3/29) divisional match at Saint Paul's College.

Kennedy / Emerson Preparatory School) defeated Lakevia Ingram of Virginia State in straights sets 6-4 and 6-3 to capture the No. 5 Singles title.  Lady Bulldogs place third overall at CIAA Spring Sports Championships.
