BOX SCORE

(BOWIE, Md.)  Sophomores Denisha Kenion (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill, University of Virginia) and Teaunsha Robinson (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) scored a dozen points each to help lead Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs to an impressive 68-44 home opening win over Livingstone.

Bowie State used an opening game 6-0 run and 60.9 first half field goal percentage (14-of-23), to dominate Livingstone form beginning to end. BSU’s Lady Bulldogs pushed their lead to 23-7 by the midway point of the first half and strolled into halftime with a very comfortable 41-16 advantage. The Lady Bulldogs played tenacious defense in the first 20 minutes, holding Livingstone’s Lady Blue Bears to five-of-28 shooting (17.9 percent). To further illustrate Bowie State’s defensive pressure, add in forcing 14 turnovers which translated into 19 BSU first half points.

Bowie State began the second half much like the first, coming out after the break with a 14-4 burst. However, BSU’s Lady Bulldogs field goal shooting cooled down in the final half play, dipping to 25.7 percent (nine-of-35). Bowie State hit just one-of eight 3-point attempts over the final 20 minutes and ended the game four-of-14 for the contest.

Livingstone (1-1 / 0-1 in the CIAA) was led by Rashida Elbourne with 11 points and Cassandra Rhodes grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for the Lady Blue Bears. Livingstone’s Lady Blue Bears shot slightly better in the second half (nine-of-30), but ended the night making only 24 percent of their field goal attempts.

Junior Stephanie Phatiphong (Silver Spring, MD, Albert Einstein, Alderson Broaddus) and freshman Juliette Turner (Silver Spring, MD, John F. Kennedy) led Bowie State on the glass with five rebounds apiece. Other top scorers for Bowie State include junior Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD, Archbishop Carroll) with nine points and sophomore Lakisha Walker (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy) with seven points.

Bowie State will hit the road for the rest of the first half of the season, traveling to Fayetteville (N.C.) State – Saturday (11/22) for a 5:30 p.m. conference matchup with the Lady Broncos.
