(CARY, NC)  Virginia State won the men’s championship and Bowie State placed second overall at the 2008 CIAA Cross Country Championships at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Sophomore Daryl Sanders (Upper Marlboro, MD, DeMatha) was the first Bowie Sate runner to cross the finish line, olacing third with a time of 26.17.1.  Freshman Joseph Philpot (Washington, DC, Wilson) and sophomore Malcolm Womack (Forestville, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) paced 110h and 11th respectively with times of 28.57.4 and 29.06.8.  Sophomore Damien Montgomery (Baltimore, MD, Woodlawn) finished 14th overall (29.31.9), freshman Michael Wallace (Medford, NY) was 20th (30.50.2), followed by Santiago Ennis in 21st (30.53.9) and Joshua Legare (Glen Burnie, MD, Antioch Christian School) was 24th (31.00.3).

In the men’s race, Virginia State scored 42 points, followed by Bowie State with 58 points and Shaw finished third with 91 points. 

The All-CIAA teams, which consist of the top 10 finishers in each race, were announced during the awards ceremony.  The All-CIAA men's runners were Joseph Philpot (Washington, DC, Wilson), Arthur Lee of Saint Augustine’s, Brandon Turner of Virginia State, Craig Perkins of Shaw, Kenny Britt of Shaw, Dwayne Townsend of Virginia State, Timothy Davidson of Virginia State, Daryl Sanders (Upper Marlboro, MD, DeMatha), Geoffrey Langat of Virginia Union and Shuping of Saint Augustine’s.

(BOWIE, Md.)  The Bowie State University men's cross country team took first place honors in its own Homecoming Challenge with a score of 22 points.  Daryl Sanders (Upper Marlboro, MD, DeMatha) once again led the Bowie State Bulldogs men with a first place time of 26:14 over the 8K course.
