(DURHAM, N.C.) As the case for much of the season, Fayetteville State University found a way to win late in the game, beating Bowie State University 21-10 to capture the 2009 CIAA Football Championship on Saturday before a capacity crowd of 7,532 at Durham County Memorial Stadium.

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association released the 2009 All-CIAA First and Second Teams today.  Of the players named Bowie State is represented by seniors Yusef Dorman-El (Baltimore, MD, Dunbar) and James Hardaway, II (Clinton, MD, Gwynn Park), juniors Sterling Grant-Jones (Baltimore, MD, Edmondson), Terence Peete, Jr. (Memphis, TN, Northwest) and Rodney Webb (Baltimore, MD, Milford Mill Academy) and sophomores Clifton Budd (Silver Spring, MD, Sherwood), James Proctor, Jr. (Capital Heights, MD, Suitland) and Kenneth Turner (Oxon Hill, MD, Oxon Hill).

(HAMPTON, Va.)  The Bowie State University Bulldogs football team may have lost their final regular season game yesterday to Virginia State, but the Bulldogs won the coin toss tiebreaker held at the CIAA Office. Bowie State, Elizabeth State and Virginia Union ended the regular season with identical 5-2 conference records. Bowie State will face Fayetteville State University for the 2009 CIAA Football Championship in Durham (N.C.) – Saturday, November 7th at Durham County Stadium.

FINAL STATS

(ETTRICK, VA) Virginia State held off a late game rally by Bowie State and defeated the Bulldogs 14-12. The Bowie State loss, its second in as many weeks, puts the Bulldogs into a three-way tie for the CIAA Eastern Division title along with Elizabeth City State and Virginia Union.  The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association will host a three-way tiebreaker tomorrow (11/1) at the CIAA Office; 1:00 pm. The accounting firm of Cavanaugh & Nelson, PC will be administering the coin toss tiebreaker.  The coin toss will be streamed live on www.livestream.com/CIAA.

(BOWIE, Md.) The Bowie State University Bulldogs recorded a 14-0 Homecoming “Mud Bowl” shutout over the Tigers of Saint Paul’s College. Junior Clifton Budd (Silver Spring, MD, Sherwood) led the Bowie State offense with 54 rushing yards and fellow junior Kenneth Turner (Oxon Hill, MD, Oxon Hill)intercepted three passes to help keep the Bulldogs unbeaten in the conference at 5-0 (5-2 overall).
